The Internet has irrevocably & totally changed the way people conduct their personal communications & business throughout the world. The ability to communicate instantaneously between people, organizations & even gigantic corporate entities at an unbelievably low cost has generated a new way of collaboration. This revolution in ‘instantaneous’ communications has been made possible in large part by the unique fusion of the best programming brains in the world who have collaborated to develop community driven open source software which can be shared or developed further. Although most of this software is very secure, scalable & stable & very significantly lower the total cost of ownership (TCO), the authors or developers do not provide any warranty to the end user. However, proprietary software vendors [who stand to lose billions …] claim that open source software is not enterprise ready due to the fact that the creators of the software do not provide any commercial warranty or quality assurance support. This issue, which in our opinion, has been overblown to panic proportions by proprietary software vendors, provides an opportunity in the global market to build the business model around Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). However, we acknowledge that while open source collaborative, community driven software development has been able to break down the proprietary software monopolies, there are many things to be done to make this software enterprise ready. We at Fossmart understand that there are numerous financial & allied benefits that can be provided to the end user with free and open source software. However, the need for accountable quality assurance, support and warranty for FOSS has inhibited the growth of this truly breathtaking innovation. In answer to this management & marketing conundrum, Fossmart has been established with the prime intention of supporting & developing open source software. Thereby drastically lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of virtually all IT solutions. Our ultimate vision is to become a leading commercial supporter for open source software system integration, implementation, development, education & quality assurance. In short, we hope to be a global player who would be able to deliver open source software confidence to the world |
